back in the saddle

Recently, I've been missing in action from the blogosphere and the real world and I apologize for this absence. That little cold/flu/demon virus I discussed in my last post decided to hangout and become besties with our bodies for just about 2 weeks. Once or twice in those two weeks I had a false sense of "healthy" and decided to get back on the horse (my elliptical running machine). My body and its demon virus pal said "HA!!". I didn't make it 3 minutes before I was hacking and wheezing. All I could think was "this really blows.. I don't even have control of my body anymore. I just wanna be HEALTHY again!".
I probably could have felt better a lot sooner if I'd gotten over my stubbornness and just went to the freaking doctor, but I've always been a firm believer in waiting out colds. I like to think that my body can handle things on its own. It usually takes me about a week or two of suffering in silence before I walk into a doctor's office with my tail between my legs begging for meds. My aha! moment came last Thursday when the gland or lymphnode or whatever it may be that sits between my earlobe and my jawbone decided to swell up noticeably enough that my face looked lopsided. Yay. Friday's visit to the doctor proved that I was in dire need of some amoxicillin beefed up with some clavulanate and potassium ( no, I do not know what clavulanate is but what I do know is that is is strong and cannot be taken on an empty stomach). They are pretty much the size of horse pills and aren't that pleasant going down, but 20 minutes on the elliptical runner without disgusting hacking proves that the meds are doing what they are supposed to. Hooray for medicine!

On a side note, I bought some new shoes to cheer me up after I left the doctor's office. When I saw them sitting on the shelf all I could think of was the black-and-white patent leather pair of saddle shoes I had in preschool. I pretty much lived in those things. This pair made my inner-preschooler jump up and down with delight. I can't wait for spring so I can pair them with floral sundresses or maxi dresses or cuffed jeans or, well, just about anything :) Happy Monday, guys!
