reagan

We picked this little peach up in Tampico, Illinois yesterday. She comes from gun-dog parents and is already so stinkin' smart. On our drive west on 92. as we started to venture into "hill country", it dawned on me that Tampico is the birthplace of our 40th president, Ronald Reagan, and I blurted out the name "Reagan". Chris immediately loved the name, so there you have it.

Reagan's ride to her new home
It took a few years for us to warm up to the idea of getting another female yellow lab (the last yellow lab we owned, Ivy, was dog-napped around thanksgiving of 2009). We'd talked about looking for another one for a while now so when Chris mentioned picking up copies of the Madison & Rockford papers so we could scour the classifieds on our drive home from the cabin, I got all giddy inside. Eventually we found the phone number that led us to her and we couldn't be happier. This is the first dog we've had total and complete say over. Like whether or not we want her to sleep in the house or if she's even allowed in the house. Every other dog we've owned had a landlord or Chris's parents deciding these things. I can't wait to take her to the pond for the first time, or to teach her to fetch, or to feel her warming my feet as she sleeps at the foot of our bed at night.
