we say "hello again!" to mornings that require flannel and afternoons that demand air conditioning
we start greeting every sunrise
the smell of diesel smoke and dust, long settled, starts to fill the air again.. a smell as welcome as freshly baked apple pie, for me
teamwork becomes a necessity like no other time of year
peeing outside, up against a tractor tire, becomes as "ladylike" as it gets, when nature calls
we start eating lunch out of a paper sack, delivered to us in the field because we're important like that ;)
i start seeing more of my husband through a window than i actually see him in person
i crank up the local oldies rock & roll station, preferably playing "Taking Care of Business", and roll on
today is the first day of harvest on our farm
