rewind & recap

Here's the fast and furious summation of what I would have blogged about over the past month and some change, if I had been blogging like a good girl should and, for the record, if our wireless router hadn't been messed up by a storm back in the beginning of August...

Nothing more frustrating than being able to use the internet for 5 minutes at a time whenever the router felt like it. Now that we're back on track, since we've connected the internet cord directly to our desktop, I should be blogging more regularly :)

1. We celebrated our first anniversary at our cabin in Wisconsin and it was grand.

2. We vacationed with my side of the family at said cabin for 3ish days.

3. We celebrated Chris's 28th birthday to the sweet sounds of Chris saying "I'm almost THIRTY!" over and over as we mowed down on my first attempt at homemade German chocolate layer cake. The frosting alone put that canned stuff you find at the store to shame, even if it cost $15 to make (walnuts are EXPENSIVE!)

4. We attended the Illinois State Fair in early August with our little bull calf and he ended up winning Reserve Grand Champion Horned Bull!

5. My dad & his fiance bought a house less than 2 miles away from our farm. Its a beautiful old white farmhouse with beautiful original woodwork and etched picture windows. The yard is huge and full of gorgeous huge trees. I'm very excited for them to start the adventure of restoring that old house together. Its going to be hard to say goodbye to the house I grew up in, but change is good, right? With them living so close, I look forward to the day when we have kids old enough to ride their bikes over there and spend a fun afternoon hanging out with their Grandpa Den.

6. In previous posts, way long ago, I discussed our plans to re-do our upstairs bedroom. First, we were going to tackle it ourselves but the mild winter and early spring that came this year prevented that, as Chris was able to keep busy with his farm duties way longer than he usually can in a winter and spring brought an early planting. So we decided to call our neighbor, who is a contractor, and try to get on the list with him. Summer came and went and we decided that if we were going to do one room, we might as well tackle them all. Ya know, one mess.. one clean up instead of drawing it out over years of plaster dust clean up. The contractor came over last weekend and asked us a bunch of questions about how we would like it (overwhelming since I always assumed we'd keep every room the same... now I find out we can make rooms bigger or smaller, etc..) and I am beyond excited!! Its nice to feel that this project, that's been in the works for soooo long, is finally shaping up :)

P.S. We are starting to harvest our corn crop today!
Even though I'm a little nervous/scared to see the toll that the drought took on our corn bushels,
I'm so happy to be back in the tractor again! Wish us a safe harvest :)

  1. Sounds like you had a fabulous month! I hate when I have router problems, its the worst. I am laughing at your frosting comment. I totally agree, baking can be expensive

  2. It's so annoying when your internet's not working! Funny how we've come so dependent upon it. And I agree nuts are way too expensive. We should plant some nut trees. Good luck with the house plans! Exciting!
